Meet Mel

Melissa Petracaj is a 26-year-old Albanian-American artist based in Ferndale, Michigan. Growing up as a first-generation American, she draws inspiration from the blending of cultures and perspectives that shape her worldview. This unique lens fuels her love for vibrant colors and abstract forms, which she uses to capture emotion and imagination on canvas. Her work often explores themes of identity, growth, and connection, expressed through bold colors and layered textures.

She began creating art at a young age and has developed her skills through watercolor commissions, residential and public murals, community art, and independent practice.

Art plays an essential role in Melissa’s daily life, serving as both a creative outlet and an emotional tool. Weaving her feelings into color and form, allowing her to express what words cannot.

Her recent projects include a seasonal window painting for a local business as well as a personal acrylic series about her growth in the art world. She works primarily in acrylics, watercolors and mixed media. Melissa is passionate about using art to transform public spaces into places of beauty, reflection, and community pride.
